Introduction

This is the first official newsletter of the Brownson Association
website. There is no specific publication schedule for the
newsletter, it will be sent out whenever there are significant
changes to the website. If you have any suggestions on how to
improve the newsletter or the website drop us a line. You can reach
us at brownson@sandmansoftware.com

We now have had over a thousand visitors to the website which is a
great start since it hasn't been announced to the general membership
yet, only those whose email addresses I have. Unfortunately, only a
handful of you have signed the guestbook. If you haven't already
done so please have a look at it and add your comments. If you
have signed it feel free to add additional comments at any time.

Brownson Association Roster Available for Download

The printed copy of the roster that Larry Gordon is distributing
has been converted to electronic format and is now available for
downloading. There is a link to the roster from the home page.
The roster was scanned and optical character recognition software
was used to convert it to editable text. The software is good,
but far from perfect. If you find any errors please let us know.

New Brownson Memorabilia Posted

Since the last update we have received a considerable amount of
photos from Brownson shipmates:

Roy Hauck (PNSN) has contributed a number of photos circa 64-66
which include the mother of all storms and a number of people
shots including one of your webmaster.

Dick Renter (CWO4) has collected shots from various sources and
donated them to the site. Don't miss Steve Poturalski's photo of
the 66-67 sonar gang.

Peter Robinson (OS2) actually delayed this issue with his
contribution but it is well worth the wait. His "Some of the
guys" shot is priceless.

There's a few more photos on the Various Sources page including
a ship's plaque from Bob Devon and a couple of great shot of the
"Brownson Bandits" softball team from Ed Loudenslarger.

I still have a lot of stuff to post but time hasn't permitted it.
I have a lot more photos from Stephen Poturalski and some history
from various sources. My apologies for the delays but the amount
of material I've received is somewhat overwhelming. That doesn't
mean to stop sending it in. I'll get to everything eventually.

If you can identify any of the unidentified guys in the photos
please let us know.

Brownson Member Email Addresses to be Published on Website

We intend to post a roster of Brownson Association members email
addresses on the website when we do the next update. While this
will make it easier for shipmates to contact you it increases the
likelihood that you will receive some "spam" (junk mail). If you
would prefer that we don't publish your address let me know and
we won't do it. If you would like a copy of our email list
before it is published let me know and I'll mail you one.

Contribute to the Memorabilia Collection

We would love to have you make a contribution to our growing
collection of memorabilia. We can accept just about any form
of electronic media. Ideally, photos should be scanned at
200-300 dpi, saved in jpeg format and zipped in a compressed
file but just about anything will. Winzip (www.winzip.com) is
about the best compression program and is pretty easy to use.

That's about it for this issue. I'll try to make these a little
more frequent in the future. I'd like to thank Bob Rogowski and
Larry Gordon for their help in producing the website.
