Introduction

Hi, remember me? If not, don't worry. You didn't have a "senior
moment", it's really been that long since the last newsletter.
I'm sorry to have let it slide this long and I don't have any great
excuses, just basic procrastination. I hope you'll find that the
latest website changes are worth the wait.

New Brownson Memorabilia Posted

Since the last newsletter we have received a lot more photos and
other memorabilia from the following Brownson shipmates:

  Ed Bledsoe *
  Charles Davis *
  Bob Devon ("various" page)
  Ed Loudenslarger ("various" page)
  Frank Napoli ("various" page)
  Stephen Poturalski
  Peter Robinson *
  Jim Schumacher ("various" page)
  Lyle Staley *

66-67 Cruisebook
----------------
One of the more interesting items I received was a 1966-67 world
cruise book from Joseph Porter who is the Commander of V.F.W.
Post 4633 in Hampden, Maine. I was able to scan the book and
would love to post it but it's far too large (150M). If anyone
is interested in getting a copy of it on CD let me know and I'll
see what I can do.

Website Changes

In addition to the new memorabilia there have been a number of
technical change to the site. The most obvious is that the
address has changed from www.sandmansoftware.com/brownson to
brownson.sandmansoftware.com. The reason for the change is I've
upgraded and restructured my web hosting account. This gives me
a lot more storage space and also permits me to add some additional
functions, the first of which is the new search engine. The old
one was a third party add-on which was free but included advertising.
The new not only does not have ads, but it also has a much more
descriptive output. Give it a try.

On-line Roster Updated

The on-line rosters were updated as of 11/20/01. Keep in mind
that these rosters are unofficial and do not necessarily agree
with the official ones maintained by Larry Gordon. For instance,
there have been a number of new members who have not been added to
them. I will be adding them as time permits.

Brownson Member Email Addresses Published on Website

This update includes a roster of Brownson Association members
email addresses. While this makes it easier for shipmates to
contact you it does increase the likelihood that you will receive
some "spam" (junk mail). If you would prefer that we don't publish
your address let me know and I'll remove it immediately.

Destroyer Centennial

2002 will be the Centennial of the U.S. Navy Destroyer. I've been
contacted by John C. Albrighton, Assistant for Public Affairs for
OPNAV N76, who asked me to spread the word. For more information
on the centennial go to their website at
http://www.surfacewarfare.navy.mil/destroyercentennial/

Contribute to the Memorabilia Collection

We would love to have you make a contribution to our growing
collection of memorabilia. We can accept just about any form
of electronic media. Ideally, photos should be scanned at
200-300 dpi, saved in jpeg format and zipped in a compressed
file but just about anything will. Winzip (www.winzip.com) is
about the best compression program and is pretty easy to use.

That's about it for this issue. I'm sure that I've missed a few
things but I'm burned out for now. I'll do some more work over
the next few weeks.

Best wishes to all of you for a happy Thanksgiving.
